Chumphon province sits on a narrow land bridge connecting the Malay Peninsula with the mainland of Thailand, known as the Isthmus of Kra. To the west are the hills of the Phuket mountain range and its northern continuation, the Tenasserim Hills, while the east features coastal plains. The mountains, combined with the long coastline and many islands, features a wide range of natural attractions for visitors such as waterfalls, white sandy beaches, green forests, mangroves, and rivers.
Ranong is the first southern province on the west coast and known in Thailand for the long rainy period, which lasts for 8 months each year. Within its compact area, Ranong features various natural attractions such as beautiful islands in the Andaman Sea including Koh Phayam and Koh Chang (not to be confussed with Koh Chang in Trat province), and is blessed with hot springs and unspoiled mangrove forests.
